Henry Weeks (1804/16 - 1872). Henry was born in Bristol England. He was married on Nov. 25, 1839 to Bridget Daley in the Parish Church of Oldham, England. They came over to America on a steam ship in 1859/60 with their children. He was meeting his soon to be son-in-law (Walter Wallis) and they were going to set up one of the 1st mechanized shoe factories in America in Richmond VA. While in England he was a shoemaker by trade and his new son-in-law was a machinist. Not sure how far they got, but they quickly moved out of Richmond when the Civil War came to town. They migrated north to Baltimore, Maryland. In 1867 they moved to Westminster, Maryland and he set up a shoe shop. He died May 20th, 1873. Thomas Weeks (1841-1915). Thomas was born in Dukinfield, England, a short distance south of Oldham. He was 17 years old when he came over with is family to America. He was an apprentice shoemaker - learning his father's trade. At some point he was conscripted (ordered to join) the Confederate Army. According to family legend, his was a messenger for the Confederate Headquarters(o'l Jeff Davis himself). At some point during the war, he and another "Englishmen" left their post and went all the way to Canada until the war was over. Legend has it that when they reached Union Lines, he had to make a run for it since they didn't know the password of the day. He was shot in the leg. This leg would give him some trouble as the years went by and that's when the story was told. On Nov. 23, 1870 he married Lydia A. Frock in Westminster, MD. They moved to Baltimore and he set up a shoe shop until he bought his father's house and shop from his estate in 1874. He and his family lived there until his last daughter died in 1967. He died on May 7th, 1915. Harry Edgar Weeks (1871 - 1925). Harry was born in Baltimore, MD. He was dad's grandfather and sadly had died prior to his birth. We have many wonderful pictures that he took in the very eary 1900's. He married Addie Elizabeth Souder in 1891. He was an astute businessman. He ran a lucheon room and pool hall at Water and O Streets, SW Washington, DC. His business was located at the end of the railroad line. He had many frequent customers for lunch. His customers helped him to win a newspaper coupon clipping contest. They sent in over 158,000 coupons with his name on them. The prize was a trip to the 1904 St. Louis Fair. After Harry's death in 1925, Addie Married Charles J. O'Conner in 1929. To Dad, CJ was the only grandfather he knew. When Addie died in 1949, she left 1 home to each of her children. Dad's father, Walter, inherited the family beach house in Colonial Beach, VA. Walter Irving Weeks (1894 - 1964). Walter was born in Washington, DC. As a young boy, he enjoyed many family trips with his parents to visit his Grandfather and Aunts in Westminster. Many pictures show them riding the PENMAR Express from Washington. He obviously was a lady's man, because he married his wife Mildred (Gene) E. Zeller when she was only 16! They lived in Cottage City, Maryland when my dad was born in 1931. In 1941 they bought a brand new home in NW Washington, DC. One of the homes that was inherited from his Mother's estate in 1949, was a house in Colonial Beach VA. The family would enjoy many summers boating and fishing for generations in this fine home. Bobby, and his two cousins, Bill Nally and Bill Leeman would create countless funny memories while growing up together and going to Colonial Beach. Walter and Gene worked in the family resturant for a time after his father died in 1925. He later worked as a Cartographer (Map Maker) for the Federal Government until his death in 1964.
